ARMENIAN 1: Elementary Armenian I (5 UNITS) – (UC:CSU)
Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.
This course stresses the fundamentals of pronunciation and elementary grammar, practical vocabulary and useful phrases to understand, read and write simple Armenian.
ARMENIAN 2: Elementary Armenian II (5 UNITS) – (UC:CSU)
Prerequisite: Armenian 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.
This course completes the elementary grammar and includes reading and comprehension of simple texts, with emphasis on oral expression. It also includes an introductory study of Armenian culture to complement comprehension of language.
HUMANITIES 63: Armenian Civilization (3 UNITS) - (UC:CSU)
Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.
A survey of Armenian civilization its development from ancient times to the present. Lectures and discussions on geography, history, and social structures of Armenia; religion, literature, and sciences; art, music and customs, and the contribution to the world.

Armenian 101 covers the Armenian alphabet, its letters and their sounds, and the fundamentals of Armenian grammar. Students are taught to pronounce correctly, to acquire a practical vocabulary, and to understand, read, write and speak simple Armenian. Lecture 5 hours, laboratory 1/2 hour.

The Armenian Studies Program was established in 1977 and the Center for Armenian Studies was founded in 1991. The Center provides an opportunity for students and faculty to interact and currently houses the Armenian Studies Program, the Sahatdjian Armenian Studies Library, the Avedian Armenian Studies Archives, the newspaper Hye Sharzhoom/Armenian Action, the Armenian Students Organization, and the Index of Armenian Art.
The Haig and Isabel Berberian Endowed Chair in Armenian Studies, established in the fall of 1988, is one of several Armenian Chairs in the United States and provides financial support for a distinguished Armenologist. The endowment honors Haig and Isabel

ADVISORY: Eligibility for English 125 and 126 or English 153 or ESL 67 and 68 and Armenian 1 or 2 years of high school Armenian or equivalent recommended.
First semester beginning Armenian listening, speaking, grammar, writing, reading, and vocabulary. Designed for students who have no knowledge of Armenian.(A, CSU-GE, UC)
