BA in French and Chinese at Liverpool John Moores University

Applied Languages - French and Chinese
BA (Hons), BA

Introduction

This four year programme is offered to students who wish to develop a high level of linguistic proficiency in two languages and a strong desire to gain an insight into and understanding of contemporary life of the France and China and their languages. The programme includes a year of study abroad and gives equal weighting to each language.

In your first year, our objective is to develop rapid competence in oral and written skills in ab initio students or to consolidate and further develop fluency, accuracy and general competence in ‘AS’ level and post ‘A’ level students. Throughout the programme students will study modules that allow them to develop their knowledge of the history, economics, current politics and social issues relevant to France and China.

Throughout your studies you will continue to build up your linguistic skills in French and Chinese through group activities with native-speaker exchange students and translation classes. In your second year options on business environment and communication specific to each language are also available, which will prove extremely useful should you decide to pursue a career in business in either country.

The third year of study is spent abroad. Students complete one semester at a university or Higher Education institution in both countries with which the languages subject group has exchange agreements. This gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the language and culture of both countries, which will prove invaluable in terms of developing fluency in both languages.
