Our program goes beyond the study of a language and incorporates the study of a culture. Whether you select Spanish, French or both, you will learn to speak, read, and write with conversational ease. Our curriculum recommends related courses in International Studies, Art History, Business, Political Science and Literature. For Spanish majors, the curriculum includes Advanced Conversation, Advanced Grammar and Composition, and a variety of courses dealing with the literature and civilization of Spain and Latin America, like The Golden Age of Spanish Literature and Spanish Civilization.

Our eclectic curriculum includes courses in writing, journalism, oral communications, fiction, poetry, Shakespeare, playwriting and more. You will be given the flexibility to explore your interests in drama, literature or writing and to tailor your course of study accordingly. Students interested in careers in law, education, commerce, communication, marketing, advertising, or public relations are encouraged to combine English with secondary interest courses.
Various internships are available in the fields of public relations, corporate communications and the media. Students have interned at museums, theaters, newspapers, libraries, and television and radio stations throughout the Hartford area. Three recent placements demonstrate the range of opportunities available: working as an editorial assistant at The Hartford Courant; creating press releases and providing journalistic coverage of campus events in the College's own Office of Marketing and Communications; and working in the internal communications office at United Technologies Corporation, a Fortune 500 company.
