The English Department offers two courses specifically designed to help students develop their creative writing skills, with the emphasis on poetry and fiction in English 127 to focusing on the short story in English 124/125.
This semester’s online LAVC schedule of classes will give you current, crucial information on each course.
The tutors at the Writing Center, in Humanities 101, always welcome creative writers to come in and get feedback on their work.
There are a couple of short fiction contests each semester for students who write outstanding short stories.
Students and teachers of English 127, Introduction to Creative Writing, have created an online literary magazine called Manuscript. It is full of good fiction and poetry written by members of the LAVC community.
There is a lot of help out there on the web for students working to sharpen their creativity, whether in poetry or prose. Here’s a place to get started.
