The Spanish Program offers a Spanish minor and teaching certification in Middle Childhood/Early Adolescence. The minor courses are chosen to foster competency in understanding, speaking, writing, and reading Spanish according to ACTFL oral proficiency standards. Cultural awareness is also an important objective for students choosing to minor in Spanish. A placement test is required for those students who have had Spanish classes and are entering their first Spanish class at Silver Lake College. Immersion experiences are available to all students and are required for teaching licensure.

In our global community, knowledge of a foreign language is quickly becoming a necessity in order to better understand our neighbors, our colleagues at work, and our world. The College of Lake County offers courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. In addition, advanced students are able to study specific cultures in their native languages.
To assist the student of languages we use a state of the art language laboratory.
Of special interest to some students may be a special topics introductory Spanish course for teachers and/or the Spanish for Spanish Speakers class.
